Connie L. Cochran
Director of Alumni Relations
Connie L. Cochran graduated cum laude from Texas Southern University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. She was a member of the Lady Tigers Tennis Team and named to the Southwestern Athletic Conference All-Academic Team. She holds a Master of Science degree in Guidance and Counseling from Chicago State University.
On July 1, 2010 Connie joined Texas Southern University as Director of Alumni Relations with more than 21 years of experience. Connie moved to Houston from her hometown, Chicago, Illinois. There she was Director of Alumni Relations and Special Events for the largest College of Medicine in the nation at the University of Illinois in Chicago. She served more than 32 departments working closely with students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community. In this capacity she planned and executed special events, alumni programs, and solicited donations to meet their fundraising campaign goal of $350 million over a three year peroid. Working closely with volunteers and alumni boards, Ms. Cochran helped promote and organize activities to engage and reconnect the alumni to the university.
Currently as Director of Alumni Relations, Connie oversees outreach and communications to over 100,000 graduates and former students of Texas Southern University. She works closely with the TSU National Alumni Association to increase membership and provide enhanced customer service. Her goals are to engage, educate and reconnect alumni to the university.
Connie was initated into Gamma Psi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. at Texas Southern University. Immediately after becoming a member, Connie was selected by the sorority to participate in an all expense paid week-long leadership training program designed to train and prepare the best and brightest undergraduate leaders - called the Leadership Fellows Program. Connie has also served as editor of her sorority's magazine and has had the opportunity to work closely with seven national presidents. In 2002, Connie was a featured guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show entitled "Career Women Who Do It All." She is a General Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., a member of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., a life member of the Texas Southern University Alumni Association and has served on numberous boards. Connie is the proud mother of two sons.
